Periodontal Treatment
Start your journey to healthy gums!
If left untreated, gum disease can cause bone loss which could later lead to tooth loss as well. Your teeth may loosen or become misaligned as the bone loss progresses.
We offer the following periodontal services:
Periodontal Cleanings
At your initial visit the doctor will examine pockets depths, if any 4mm or greater pockets are noted, or other evidence of periodontal disease, a periodontal cleaning is almost always necessary to stop the progression of gingivitis. Similar to a regular teeth cleaning, periodontal maintenance removes tartar buildup from the teeth. Unlike a normal, preventative cleaning, periodontal maintenance is a treatment prescribed to combat periodontal disease. The cleanings will be done every 3-4 months. It is important to stay on schedule so that the progress that is made towards restoring your gingival health is not undone.
Periodontal Laser Therapy
A laser is used to access and remove the inflamed gum tissue from around your tooth's root. Our doctors then remove the tartar and plaque built up below and around your gumline. Next, they use a different tool to smooth out any rough spots on your tooth above and below the gumline.
Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening is necessary when a dentist identifies decay in the tooth they cannot easily access. Decay hidden deep beneath the gums cannot be properly accessed without performing a crown lengthening procedure. The most common reason why a crown lengthening may be needed are: teeth that are too short, tooth decay below the gum line, or a fractured tooth beneath the gum line. During the crown lengthening procedure, gum tissue is reduced and bone is shaved down when necessary, so more of the tooth is above the gum's surface. A properly fitted crown allows for better oral hygiene and comfort. Decay under the gum line that is removed and restored prevents the need for costlier treatment such as root canals or total loss of the tooth.
